Wi-fi calling app / device / operating system with virtual mobile number; Business Plan.
This blog is about an idea which is there in my mind from a very long period. I always think why we are paying for national roaming or international roaming as we are using the same internet facilities world wide, I mean the social media and other softwares and applications.
We have WhatsApp calling facilities, IMO, messenger and many more. All these are not providing any virtual mobile number instead they use the person's name or his regular mobile number. There are a few apps which are providing virtual mobile numbers, but most of them are limited to USA and Canada.
Coming to my idea, introduce an application or an Operating system, not a fully fledged though which has the facilities to make calls, video calls, save and share videos, images, data files and voice or sound files. If it is a software then bring everything under one just like WhatsApp, if it is an operating system then add separate icons for all these facilities, also include browser, e mail and organizers.
Providing virtual number is the main concern, a virtual number should include country code, area code and unique mobile number. Imagine if the country code is +91 area code is the first 3 digits of the zip code, for example a Bangalore number would be like +91 560 and 10 digit virtual number 1234567890, ie, +91 560 1234567890. To generate a virtual number one needs to submit his local address and finger print to the kiosks or the outlets of this particular organisation. A maximum of 3 numbers can be issued per person. The company can charge premium for fancy numbers. If number generating is done by the customer they may manipulate it with VPN and other facilities.
Advantages of this system includes,
1- SIM card is not required, only WiFi is enough to make calls. In case wi-fi is not available SIM card can be used only to connect to the internet. Other option is, the service provider can introduce public wi-fi in main cities, airports and all.
2- No roaming charges, one can easily connect to his family, friends and business from any parts of the world as it is not depending any local service provider to make calls.
3- No physical sim cards, all you need is an user ID and password and login to the network, something similar to email, Facebook logins.
To conclude, I am sure there is a scope for a system like this in the future and it will make the international calling more smoother.
